Basic Facts

Time of the Resurrection

  • Before dawn on a Sunday morning - John 20:1-9

The Sign of Jonah

  • Three days AND three nights in the grave - Matt. 12:39-40.

The Jewish Day

  • The biblical day observed by the Jews began at sundown - about 6 PM (Gen. 1:5, 8, etc.)

The Old Testament Passover

The Jewish year began with the new moon of the month Nisan (Abib) - Ex. 12:2.
The Passover lamb was to be selected on the 10th day of the 1st month - Ex. 12:3.
The lamb was to be kept up until the 14th day of the month - Ex. 12:6a.
The 14th day is the Passover -Lev. 23:4-5.

Note: Some commentators believe the Passover was a special sabbath day:most believe it was not.

The lamb was to be killed in the evening (beginning of the 14th day) - Ex. 12:6b.
The meal was to be eaten that evening - Ex. 12:8.
Jesus is identified as the anti-type of the Passover lamb - 1 Cor. 5:7.
The 15th day is the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread - Lev. 23:6.
The 1st day of the feast of unleavened bread is a special sabbath day - Lev. 23:7.

Saturday (10th) - The weekly Sabbath

Our Friday evening to about 6 PM Saturday afternoon
6 days before the Passover - John 12:1-2
Weekly sabbath spent at Bethany

Sunday morning (11th) - "Palm Sunday"

The next day - John 12:12
Ride the colt into Jerusalem - Luke 19:35-40; Mt. 21:8-11
"This, thy day..." - Luke 19:41-42
